When I found out that Cee was moving to another country, I was
immediately reminded of all the changes I went through when I relocated
from England to New York City at the end of 2010. The experience of
moving to another place, another culture, another climate even, is
amazingly transformative and I wish Cee all the best in her adventures
in Paris!
I think some of the most interesting changes that I
have encountered have been through that of my individual style. In
Manhattan I needed new clothes for the humidity of summer and the
freezing cold winters, for starters! However temperature and comfort
aside, I found myself combining my more classic shapes and silhouettes,
very much my style from the UK, with a more edgy, urban look perhaps
more typical of New York. I invested in more accessories to shape my
outfits including some body wear - harnesses, the likes of which at the
time I was living in the UK you would not have seen me wearing on the
streets!
I have embraced some wonderful new brands in
America. Designers Alice Yim, Morgan Carper and the label Eighteenth
are new favourites of mine. I have however remained faithful to my UK
favorites too. I still shop in and wear Reiss often (the dress in this
post is a wonderful piece from their summer collection, I love the
flowing splits and nude / coral colours) and I've accessorized with
Fleet Ilya, Bordelle and Lascivious.
I look forward with great interest to how Cee
combines her Vancouver style with a new Parisian aesthetic, and I hope you have
fun with it Cee, I know I did :-)

ReplyDeleteSarah, you look beautiful in this gorgeous dress.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree with Sarah. when I moved to Ireland, I straight away notice the difference in styles. I have to admit moving chainged my style as blogging as well, but I'm still true to myself.
I'm curious as well how Paris will inspired Cee. I can't wait for posts.

Sarah looks STUNNING in that dress. Gorgeous dress and beautiful figure. Thank you for your words, Cee. I have been feeling so all over the place. Although I love working with brands, i feel that they've taken over slightly this summer. Blogging has become a chore recently, eating in to my work hours, and I need to reign things in a bit, i think. Thank you for your lovely comment, as always. Hope you are well. Lots of love xxx
ReplyDeleteThat dress is gorgeous! I hope I someday get to experience such a lifechanging move.

Sarah, you look so beautiful in the Reiss maxi dress! You are absolutely right about the fact that a new city and new country can redefine your style and I went to a similar process when I moved to Brussels, where I discovered so many Belgian labels and absolutely enjoyed the proximity with Paris. I'm going to check out the brands you mentioned in the post, thanks for the suggestions!

I totally agree. I moved from Manchester to Cape Town earlier in the year, and clothing is not one of the things that you even consider when moving, its so low down on priorities, but becommes a priority as soon as you arrive, especially when you're a season behind like me. People looked at me strangely at 1st, but now I'm embrasing it as being fashion forward! You never know, someone could say in 6 months time "I remember seeing a girl wearing something like this 6 months ago!". Good luck with the move Cee.

I was completely unprepared for the humidity factor I must admit! I've ended up with a lovely new summer series of clothes since the move...

Darling, you look amazing! Those pastel shades look gorgeous on you, and the fabric flows beautifully. I never really thought about the idea of having to adjust your style somewhat by moving to a different country. Interesting!
