I’ve never really been a trendy girl. But after a major closet cleanout before my move in the fall, I’m even more hesitant to jump on the trend bandwagon – so many of the pieces that I parted with were beautiful, but they weren’t me. I wore them once or twice because I wanted to try something new, without giving enough consideration to they would hold my interest in the long term… and most of them didn’t. Around the same time, the baroque trend hit the runways and I fell head over heels. But I hesitated to add any baroque pieces to my wardrobe because I worried they would suffer the same fate as my florals, my mints and my far-too-extensive collection of maxi dresses {none of which were ever short enough, even if I wore heels.} I resisted for months. But finally, in December, I stumbled upon this black and gold brocade dress. By the time I left the store with it, I already had three ideas for different ways to wear it… obviously, I haven’t looked back. It’s a wonderfully versatile piece but I think the key is, although it happens to be on trend at the moment, it will be me years from now. And seriously, how well does it go with my Prism Couture booties? I can’t get over what a perfect combination they make!

(Outfit Diary) Black and Baroque

tu es très élégante et l'endroit est superbe, et j'aime bien cet imprimé baroque, en doré et noir c'est encore mieux :)
ReplyDeleteIt's always a happy coincidence when a current trend is actually a deeper component of your own personal style (I'm personally thrilled with all the faux leather and spikes out there right now because that's just me!). And it's a really lovely dress - baroque inspired pieces are so rich and beautiful.

Very beautiful! x
ReplyDeleteOh I love that brocade skirt. You look pretty as well :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful outfit! The brocade dress is so lovely! I know what you mean about trends -- some are just not me at all. Harem Pants? No. Sneaker wedges? No. Camo? No. But others are things that I can see myself wearing for years to come, like pastels, colored pants, and booties. Although it's not a bad things to try out new trends, I think it helps when people know their style that way they know which trends can be easily incoporated into their wardrobe.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!

Love the detail on that skirt, and those shoes look amazing on!

I totally get what you mean about the trend thing - I am also not one to buy items just because they're on trend, though there are some trends that I can't help but buy into. Coincidentally, I bought a baroque jacket last night at Aritzia, and as I was leaving the store all I could think of was all the new outfits I had with just the one new piece! Trend or not, I think a piece like that is worth the investment!

Ah voila, alors tu as trouvé ! Hate de la voir sur toi :) bisous!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this dress, it's the perfect piece. It looks great under this top! I have just been buying things mindlessly in the past little while and i find I don't actually like the majority of it, it's ridiculous. I want to go to my closet and love every piece. I just need to be a more mindful shopper, i think!

we have now so many trends and micro trends that I don't believe if someone say that they don't wear something on trend :)It's like impossible to escape them. All shops change their collections so quickly, one sale after another, because new collection is coming in.The most important is to take what we want and what suits and forget about everything else.
ReplyDeleteThe baroque trend is so chic. Before Christmas I was looking for to buy dress with black and gold pattern it had beautiful back cut out..and missed it..oh, I was so upset. Now when I see you styling this gorgeous dress I understand how much I'm missing that dress in my wardrobe. Your booties are so adorable.
♥

I need to try some baroque for myself. You're looking amazing in the trend. I have a closet full of unworn trend pieces too. I should do something with all my mint and maxi too.
ReplyDeleteJe craque sur ta jupe, elle est vraiment jolie !

Girl don't jump on any trends. Wear what is you and that is all you need. I hate people who follow trends blindly without thinking "does this work for me?". I love how you dress. You are always so feminine and dressed up and I like that. That is how I know Cee! If you posted a look and looked like me I would wonder what had happened to Cee? Haha! I enjoy that you do not post a lot of super trendy items and looks. I know to come to this blog if I do need to dress up for an event. Cee I trust that you will have me covered!

I love everything about your look as always Cee....baroque pieces like that deserve the best black backdrop to emphasize its exquisite-ness!! You always nail it best that's why I'm always here!!

I don't consider myself to be someone who follows up-to-the-moment trends on a consistent basis. I think the trick is to be mindful of what's new and exciting out there, but ultimately stick with what you like. I was walking behind this girl yesterday for about a good block and she had me wanting to go back to my old roots of wearing black everything. She was wearing black from head to toe, but in all different textures and materials - she looked so modern and put together. I suppose when I look through my closet and do my minor cleanses here and there, its the black pieces I often don't think twice about keeping, but the really colorful pieces I sometimes hesitate keeping. The Baroque trend is something which definitely had/is having its moment, but when done right I think its always 'in the moment'. This outfit is truly one you can wear 3, 5 or 10 years from now and still look current. Well done!
ReplyDeletecute skirt and earrings!

This outfit is AMAZING! I love everything, especially the shoes and the skirt. :)

Such lovely photos Cee! I am all about purchasing items that are me and are classically me. I do purchase trends if I like them but some trends I just don't. With that said I also have some pieces that I've worn once and think what a waste! I try to be more aware when I purchase things now to make sure I am not just purchasing something because its trendy but because its me. Also, what is the weather like in Paris??! I am jealous you can stand outside like that. Its been too cold and snowy here in Canada to even try..I don't like indoor pics as much as outdoor ones but I have to. My backyard is crazily covered in snow..our patio set is legit drowning in it! xo
ReplyDeleteOh Lauren, the weather is really not remotely warm enough for a lot of the outfits I wear... I always have a coat to put overtop, but since I really only own one winter coat, it doesn`t make it into the pictures very often. You`d be bored of seing it very quickly!
Deletexox,
Cee
Les escarpins sont juste sublimes ... Ca donne une classe folle à la tenue =)
ReplyDeleteGreat dress! It will be so versatile for you!

I think it's cool you've never really been a trendy girl and I love this look. I think black tights with black heels is so chic in the winter! You look very pretty and your makeup is perfect with this look

You look absolutly gorgeous!! :) I really like this style and your nice hair! :)
ReplyDeleteAny print that last survived decades, let alone CENTURIES, is bound to be classic and enduring enough to deserve space in your (reduced) closet. I love how much attention is given to the back of your outfits, like the sweet bows on the heels of your booties.

ReplyDeleteThat skirt is gorgeous! And I really love your boots :)

It's a lovely dress and the boots are perfect with it. It's so much better when a dress can be worn in several different ways . There's less chance that it will stay hanging in the wardrobe! This year I'm trying to avoid impulse buys and looking for versatile pieces.

These heels are to die for an I just love the skirt. you're always classy and simple.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree - the heels totally make this outfit, the bows are so cute!
