The hashtag #allblackeverything is endlessly popular on instagram and, not surprisingly, a personal favourite for me, but I’m just as much a fan of its opposite, all white everything. Diner en Blanc is the last big event of the summer in Vancouver and while I didn’t decide to attend until the very last minute, I am absolutely willing to admit that it was the colour palette that convinced me in the end. I love white – if black didn’t exist, it would be my favourite colour. The decor in our apartment is mostly white, with touches of black and gold. My wardrobe is the same, with a few grey pieces added in for days when I want to mix things up. It was a beautifully hot and sunny evening for the event, which admittedly wasn’t what I would have chosen for capturing pre-event outfit shots, but as the sun began to set, the warm light just got lovelier and lovelier. (Of course, by then I had had a glass of wine and was too busy chatting with people to worry about getting more photos – it was Erin who actually Lyndi and me to get one last photo of us, and it turned out to be my favourite shot of the night!) Now that we’ve had our last white night, it means that summer is officially on its way to ending, so we’re trying to pack in every single summer activity we can in the next few weeks – bike rides, picnics, garden visits. But while we’re trying to squeeze every last bit of fun out of summer, we’ve also got some seriously exciting plans for early September. I know I’ve been deliberately vague about what’s to come, but I promise, the wait will be worth it… and the big reveal is coming next week! Wishing you all a very happy Wednesday, my friends.

  1. They host one of these in Edmonton as well and I always toy with the idea of going but the thing that holds me back is that I literally only one white thing (just a top) and so I’d have to go out and drop some cash to get fitted out for it…and if I gotten this far in life with only owning one white thing, there’s a pretty high chance that I’d buy some white pieces and accessories and then just never wear them again! As you can see, I’ve put a ridiculous amount of thought into this….

Every time you describe this event to me, I know it would be one I’d be head over heels to attend. Aside from the fact that white is my favorite color, it just seems like a beautiful way to celebrate the summer, who’s end always seems to arrive far too quickly, and it seems like we must always hustle come August to squeeze in every last activity.
