Last weekend, I conquered one of my biggest fears and rode in a Harbour Air float plane from Vancouver to Victoria. It did not go particularly well – not because anything actually went wrong, but because, predictably, it turned out that I really wasn’t ready to fly over open water in a twelve-seat plane. (That said, it was way easier just to suck it up for half an hour – taking Harbour Air to Victoria is by far the quickest way to get there!) But adventure called, and when it does, I always answer. We had a fabulous time in Victoria once we were on dry land, but in the days leading up to the trip, and the inevitable plane ride, I busied myself with outfit planning to keep from obsessing about how terrifying the upcoming flight would be. The weather has been unusually unpredictable this year and, as the forecast changed, so did my outfit plans; I went through about three potential travel looks before finally settling on this one, the perfect mix practicality – see nearly flat boots and warm hat for proof that I do occasionally take comfort into consideration when I get dressed – and style. It turned out to be the best possible choice; December is such a fun time to travel because wherever you go, everything feels so festive, but it’s also a season of inclement weather and delays, so when our trip home wound up taking four hours instead of thirty minutes, I was really glad that I hadn’t gone for a more Pinterest-worthy but less functional look. (Yes, I wore the same outfit both ways – sorry, not sorry.) Will you be travelling anywhere for the holidays this year? And if so, what will you be wearing?

  1. I’m glad you made it through the flight okay! I’ve weirdly gotten more and more nervous about flying the older I get. It’s sort of strange, really. I mean it doesn’t bother me, really, but I’ve noticed on my last 6-8 flights that I’m nervous at take off and at a few points mid-flight in a way that I’ve never been before.

Travel style is always the most challenging. Needing to be functional, comfortable, and cute is nearly impossible. I can count on one hand the pairs of pants I own that I want to be stuck in for 12 hours or more, as like you said, sometimes a 30 minute trip can turn into a four hour one!

I think this look is a total success however, and your coat just looks so fuzzy and warm! Glad you faced your fears and enjoyed your trip!

Oh wow, talk about facing your fears 🙂
I think I will be doing charity work for Christmas (if plans don’t change) so I will be in overalls and a tee shirt.

  4. First I have to comment on the fact that you consider those to be “nearly flat” boots. Those are my form of heeled boots. Ha! (Funny enough, up until 5 or 6 years ago I wore heals constantly.) Second, you look stunning, as always. And third, I am hugely claustrophobic and I would likely react the same way about flying in a plane of that size. Even if you did freak out, you did it! And that is awesome.

  5. Brave, very brave of you Cee!! I’m not the best traveler and I’m pretty certain I’d have to take some sort of pill to take that flight. But… it sounds like your trip was absolutely worth it and I love your practical but super stylish outfit. Both you & Lyndi look so fab and I can’t wait to see more of your trip!! Hope your week is off to a great start! xo
