It required waking up when the sky was still black, but seeing the sun rise over Acropolis Hill in Athens was an absolutely priceless experience. We arrived in time to watch cadets from the Greek military raise the flag over the ruins which, while a slower process than I expected – the march up the hill lasted upwards of forty minutes – was surprisingly moving. There is a feeling I have not yet come up with a word for, that comes over you when you walk in the footsteps of so many people who have come before you, particularly in a place that, until that point, has existed only in books and your imagination, and that was what I felt as I gazed up at the Parthenon and the Erechtheion. I admit that the outfit I chose for the occasion was perhaps less than practical – even the most comfortable high heeled sandals are no match for centuries old stone paths – but I can’t imagine having dressed any other way for such a monumentous (excuse the pun) moment. This white dress from L’Academie feels to me like the kind of dress that the fabulous characters in old movies wore to maintain their impeccable elegance when going on holiday in hot countries, and knowing that I would be surrounded by so much history, I wanted to feel like I was a little bit a part of it, too; I chose this dress specifically for visiting Acropolis Hill, knowing I couldn’t have felt if I’d had the same experience if I wore a t-shirt dress. Paired with some less tall sandals, it would be absolutely perfect for a day of touring in the sunshine, no matter where you might be; I can just picture it with Birkenstocks and a straw hat for a wine tasting! And the good news is, if you want to add one to your wardrobe, which I highly recommend, REVOLVE is offering 20% off their entire site from now until April 6th, using the code TAKE20 – what better reason to treat yourself to a little something lovely for the spring and summer? (Although since all I’ve bee doing lately is treating myself to all things pastry- and fashion-related, I suppose I could be a bad influence… But I’m not really too sorry, life is just as lovely as you make it, and beautiful dresses make it lovelier.)

Wow Cee ! I am certain you were the best dressed tourist on that hill, my kind of tourist 😉
I think it was a great choice of wear, you look like a modern day Goddess.

  2. While I completely different experience, this line resonated with me: “…has existed only in books and your imagination,” because it is exactly how I felt when I snorkeled the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. I remember being so emotional overcome, thinking about how I had only experienced this place through books and pictures and videos. In other thoughts, your dress was absolutely perfect for this particular experience! Beautiful.

  4. Oh Cee, I’ve been obsessed with this outfit ever since I snuck a peek via your snap, or perhaps it was Insta? In any case, this is such a beautiful and effortless look… and exactly what I’d imagine a beauty like you would wear for a day of Athens adventuring!! <3 And I couldn't agree more, life is short and while I'm still eagerly curating the perfect capsule wardrobe… I'm also a firm believer in treating myself. This sale is very tempting indeed! Off to peek! xo

I simply can not blame you for slightly impractical outfit choices – like you said, what you wear influences how you feel just as much as where you are. You will have the memories of the day as being elegant and of the old world.

It might not have been practical, but it looked great with that location Cee! That style dress looks so good on you. You always wear it well. I think you wore a black one around New Years. It looked so lovely on you, I called my mom to see. She said, that girl knows how to dress! HaHaHa
