The process of writing blog posts ahead of a long holiday is a strange one. I am typing these words four days before our departure, but no one will actually read them for eighteen days, by which time we will have just arrived back in Canada. It’s always a bit sad, to me, to be thinking and planning beyond an event I’m so excited about, like two weeks in Europe, but this is very much part of my reality – everything in my work is planned on two-week intervals, so I already know what will await me when I get home (aside, of course, from a lot of laundry and, most likely, a lot of new purchases to find space for in my already packed closet.) But, on the bright side, for the first time in years, I will be coming home to an apartment that I love. I know the inevitable homesickness for Paris will ensue when we get back – it wouldn’t be a trip to Europe if I didn’t come home and spend twice as much time wishing I had never left – but by the time you read this, I will be focused on a new and exciting project to distract myself from missing Paris: decorating our new home!
