CHANEL isn’t just a brand – for me, it’s the brand, the one that I have always coveted above all others; the one whose handbags I lusted after for the first thirty years of my life before finally buying my own; the one I love so much that I actually named by blog after its namesake and her muse. I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea, and can clearly imagine my incredible excitement (and, okay, slight disbelief) when I recently opened my mailbox to find a plain white envelope containing a very special invitation. CHANEL recently opened their flagship boutique in Vancouver, where the incredible Paris to Rome collection had its Canadian debut. It’s one thing to admire a brand but is entirely another to visit their flagship store early in the morning with your best friend and wander, awestruck, among all of the incredible pieces, from the softest blush leather handbags to intricately woven tweeds and delicate lace. I wanted to appear sophisticated, and I did my best to dress the part in a BCBG cocktail dress from Shop Carte Blanche, a stunning CHANEL Boy handbag from local luxury consignment store Modaselle and my beloved Christian Louboutin heels. But truth be told, no matter how fabulous my outfit was – and I did feel very Parisian chic – I think I gave myself away, because I’m pretty sure I gaped my whole way through the boutique, amazed by all the beautiful tweed sofas, the gold camelias in the doorway and, of course, the beautiful clothes and accessories. There are times, I admit, when a brand that I have loved from afar has disappointed me in person, but the opposite proved to be true of CHANEL – I left their Vancouver flagship store more enchanted than ever with their designs (and with several new pieces on my wishlist!)
