La Librairie Sezane

March 29, 2017

I couldn’t very well tell you all about my love affair with Sezane and then not show you what the inside of their charming little bookstore looked like, now could I? I had seen sneak peeks of the space on instagram, but I didn’t really know what to expect – it’s not everyday a fashion brand opens a book store and while some have experimented with coffee shops, well, I’m just not as passionate about coffee as I am about books, so I don’t get all that excited when that happens. There is coffee at the Sezane bookstore, mind you, and tea, too; it’s free, and the very kind shop girls will prepare it for you while you browse or sit at one of the three little tables. Mine came, fittingly, in a mug with the letter “C” on it. But I admit that I didn’t spend too much time sitting, because I was busy browsing all of the books; the expected selection of fashion volumes is in stock, of course, but so are shelves upon shelves of old novels, which you can sit and read at your leisure. Still, it was the accessories that most caught my eye. Sezane is, fundamentally, an online business; the return process is easy but each purchase does come with an inherent risk, since you cannot try items before purchase. (And let’s face it, even if online returns are easy, no one wants to have to do them.) And while I love online shopping because I hate trying clothes on in stores, it really was a treat to be able to interact with the full range of Sezane’s handbags before deciding if I wanted to bring one home with me. The verdict? Of course I did. (Okay, I went in knowing I would want to buy something, but I loved the experience of getting to pick the bags up and feel the fabrics before making a choice; the tactile experience of shopping is the one thing I wish could somehow be made available online.) If you are in Paris, a trip to the Sezane bookstore is a must, as far as I’m concerned – for a stylish bibliophile, it’s a wonderful place to just relax, and chances are good you’ll find something you want to buy, too.

La Librairie Sezane
3, rue Saint-Fiacre

  1. That looks like such a wonderful space – I can only imagine how lovely it would be to spend some time there (and browsing a good book selection is one of my favourite pastimes).

  8. That place looks like Instagram heaven! Handbags are not what I am usually drawn to, but books and tea along with these stylish interior items are right up my street.

What a charming idea! A bookstore, a coffee shop, and a little accessory shopping… sounds like a delightful way to spend an afternoon. Now, are the books for sale, or just for browsing?
