Well, one floral in particular. When I was six, my mom bought me a pair of black, floral-print stirrup pants. It was love at first sight. I fell so hard for the purple and yellow blooms that I wore those pants not just on my first day of grade one, but on the first three days of school that year. (At least, I remember drawing myself wearing the pants in each of my three first school journal entries that year; mom can correct me if, in fact, she didn’t let me wear the pants three days in a row.) The thing is, those pants were an anomaly, because I’ve really never loved floral prints. I did a very brief experimentation with a few dark floral pieces in my mid-twenties and that was enough for me to confirm that my love of fresh blooms doesn’t extend to a love of blooms on my clothes. But something about the print on this Majorelle dress caught my eye when I first saw it late last year. I hesitated for a few months, going back to look at it online again and again (and even featuring a version of it here.) I hesitated and hesitated because I am so often guilty of loving how a garment looks without actually loving the act of wearing it. I could bring up countless examples of this from my wardrobe, but honestly, no one has that kind of time. I finally decided to pull the trigger because everything looks lovelier in Paris, but more importantly because I was curious if, after so many years of avoiding florals, I could find a way of wearing them that would feel like me. The short answer is, not really. I’m still not a florals girls and I genuinely don’t anticipate adding any more of these types of prints to my wardrobe. But sometimes, when you love something, there is no explaining it, and that’s exactly how I feel about this dress – I love it because I love it, even though it resembles none of the things I normally love to wear, and that’s just the way it is. Where do you stand on floral prints?

I’ve been talking a lot about florals lately in that I’ve also never really been partial to them and I’m still not but I have acquired some floral pieces because they seem to be pretty popular in maternity clothes. So while I’ve been able to get on board with a few isolated pieces and I am happy with the way they look, they also definitely don’t feel like me and I’m not means a total convert.

I like the kimono vibe this dress gives.. I like florals but for some reason I don’t own many garments in this print.

  3. I’ve never been a floral girl, but then, I started blogging and it all changed! 😉 I love the way florals photograph and have learned to love them since. In fact, I’m thinking of nabbing a beautiful floral maxi dress or two!

And I’ll admit, I was surprised to see you in florals… I think you pull them off beautifully though! I could see this dress working so well in the fall too with your OTK boots and a fantastic cashmere coat… just sayin’! Hope you’re having a fab week and can’t believe you only have 3 weeks left! Enjoy every minute!! xo

  4. My love for florals sways from one end of the spectrum to another Cee. LOL Either I love something or hate it. So I understand how you feel. But when you love something or look good in it, you should definitely get it 😀

I do love wearing florals. They have a great feeling of Spring to them. This dress is the prettiest – the asymmetrical hem is a dream!

Haha, yes, we are all the same, loving clothes that will hang in our closets that we won’t really wear! I was surprised to see you in a floral popping up in my feed this morning, but I do love this on you. It’s soft and dreamy, and feels like the kind of dress perfect for a morning in Paris.
