The end of summer is always bittersweet. We’ve had a very long season this year, starting with sunny days in Greece back in March. By the time we left Paris in May, the temperature was so warm that I almost wasn’t sorry to go – thirty-seven degree heat is much less appealing when you live without air conditionning, well, anywhere. We’ve had the time to do every summer thing we could have wanted and more. We really have no reason to say we didn’t have enough time.

But it isn’t really about the time. It’s about all the wonderful things that summer brings; the long, lazy afternoons spent poolside and the ice cream cones and the long walks to nowhere in particular. No matter how long you’ve been able to enjoy them, it really never gets easier to let those things go. Particularly when the temperature drops from 33 degrees celcius to 13 celcius in a matter of days. Last week, I changed from tank tops to sweaters almost over night and so far, I haven’t had a chance to look back.

We knew summer would end. Not just because it always does but because a chill came into the air in the mornings. It happened slowly, but it was noticeable. I was determined not to let it end my summer fun prematurely, particularly when the most adorable palm print bodysuit from Tobi arrived. It was already too cold to swim on the day we took these photos. But the sun was out, which was all that mattered. A swimsuit and a bodysuit are pretty interchangeable if you’re not going in the water. And since I know it will be hard to make this one look wintery, but I wanted to wear it before next summer, it was the perfect opportunity.

I do, admittedly, have a few sets of photos saved up from our time in Europe that feature outfits from warmer days, but warmer is a relative term. These are the last poolside photos for this year. My daily looks currently featuring jeans, sweaters and, mostly, boots. The transition was abrupt, so I want to live vicariously through my past self, the one who could legitmately go out for the day with bare legs, for just a little bit longer… I’m not quite ready to say good-bye to summer just yet.

  1. The end of summer is really bittersweet for me this year. I love fall and winter and typically loath summer so usually this is the time of year when I’m at my happiest but now, with Eleanor here, I’m dreading colder weather and icy roads that make it unwise/impractical for me to take her out of the house … and I seriously think I would unravel mentally if I couldn’t get out of the house 5-6 times a week, even if it’s just for a quick visit with a friend or to run an errand (baby in tow of course). So I’m torn this year.

  3. We had a smidgen of a cold spell a couple of weeks ago. It felt so good. Now the heat is back! Can’t wait for colder weather. LOL

  4. It’s hard to believe summer has come & gone. We went from scorching temps to chilly mornings in the blink of an eye as well. Sigh! And I must say it went by way too fast… I feel like I checked very little off my summer list. So, fingers crossed, fall is a little more productive! And I absolutely love your Tibi bodysuit, the print is gorgeous and I love how you’ve styled it too. Poolside can’t be beat! 😉
