(I will never, ever tire of coming up with new black-related puns. Even though they are absolutely lame. I can’t help myself.)

It’s been a long, ordinary end of November week where nothing in particular has happened. And yet, every day has ended with me wishing more deeply for an extended vacation. The older I get, the more I realise just how hard I find it to survive winter – and having a smile on my face while I do it seems next to impossible, honestly. So I divide my time, almost equally, between feeling miserable because it’s cold and snowy and chastising myself because cold and snow outside are not real problems.

I should probably just pack my bags and move somewhere warm. One of these days. But in the meantime, I’m dreaming of blue skies and sunshine. There’s something about good weather that makes me apt to forget anything that goes wrong. These photos are a good example of that, actually, because they were shockingly hard to get. This all black outfit, already totally impractical in Las Vegas, seemed perfect until we got to our shoot location, which turned out to be a wind tunnel. The first few snaps show me frantically trying to hold my hair in some kind of position, but we moved on pretty quickly. And while we found a similar spot, it turned out to be a very high traffic spot. We spent close to an hour trying to wait out and generally dodge ambling tourists just to get these shots.

In the moment, it was somewhere between a little annoying and utterly ridiculous. But it was a beautiful day, so when I look back, I don’t think about how hot I was in all black. Or about how long it took us to get just four photos I liked. In the winter, by contrast, I dwell on every little detail. A single hiccup in my plans can ruin my whole day.

Admitting you have a problem is the first step. But I’m not sure there are any winter haters anonymous meetings I can attend, so for the time being, I’m just looking back at all my photos of palm trees and hoping, really hoping, that this season will be short.

Where do you stand on winter?

  1. My opinions on winter are pretty unpopular in that I absolutely love the season. Solely because it’s cold. I don’t ski or do any other winter sports, so being outdoors in that sense really has nothing to do with it. I just love winter jackets and the feeling of being chilled to the bone (I am fully conscious of how odd that sounds but it’s true!).

I’d join the winter haters in a heartbeat. I feel like my body was just not meant to handle cold, and more so, not in a fashionable way. Taking photos in the warm air, even when it takes forever, is okay. Taking photos in the cold is another story entirely, when the wind blows and your face looks weird and your hair is out of place, all you can think about is what a crazy person you are for subjecting yourself to such an absurdity. Winter makes simple things difficult. And that is the bottom line.

Where do I stand on winter? There is this amazing cartoon by Norwegian artist Tomas Drefvelin where one of his characters is wearing gunbelts with hairdryers in them, which he then turns on a big pile of snow. While screaming, “DIE, WINTERF***ER!!” That pretty much sums up how I feel about winter, heh.

These backgrounds were worth waiting for though! They totally make your outfit pop against them! And I really like how all the different textures make the all-black look so varied.

  5. Cee, you guys always do a great job with picture shots! You always look like you’re the only one there. I would never think. So serene! I love your outfit! Gosh those boots are gorgeous. Also love your sunnies. I’m only embracing this cold weather, because we don’t see it as much (as you guys get). But I definitely think a retreat from the cold should always be in the plans 😉
