On Tuesday, we decided to take an impromptu trip to Amsterdam. A day trip to another major city just isn’t something you can do in Canada (at least not outside of Ontario). Being able to decide only hours ahead of time that you want to go to a different country, and being able to get there in a few hours, is part of the wonderful novelty of travelling in Europe.

During our day in the Dutch capital, we visited the Anne Frank House and the red light district (because you have to, like you have to visit the Champs-Elysees, although I have to admit I think they’re both a bit lame.) We ate giant Dutch pancakes and thick-cut chips with mayonnaise. We explored the neverending canals, just enjoying the sun (which we’ve had very little of in Paris)… and we made it home in time for bed! It doesn’t get much better than that.
Have a lovely weekend, my darlings!

It looks gorgeous. We managed to spend a few hours in Amsterdam between flights in June and loved it! There was a gorgeous market where we bought some delicious fresh sandwiches and ate in them in the sun before wandering around the antique stalls. The vintage sunglasses were particularly fabulous!

Thank-you all for your comments, girls. Spontaneity isn't really my thing, but this trip to Amsterdam was definitely the best thing I've ever done spontenously. It's such a beautiful city, I'd love to spend more time there in the future.

@Margaret… We definitely didn't find that market, which gives me even more incentive to go back. I love antiques. Especially fashion-related antiques like vintage sunglasses 🙂
