I spent the past weekend on Hayden Island in the Columbia River, at The Oxford Inn and Suites. Once upon a time, Hayden Island was like Coney Island, an amusement park and beach for family fun. Now, it’s home to hotels, gas stations, a Target, a Safeway and a lonely restored carousel.
I had never been to Portland before; I fell in love with the food and decor at Mother’s Bistro, drank creamy caramel hot chocolate at Moonstruck on Nob Hill and went to see a movie in the former Kennedy Elementary School. [There was shopping, too, of course- but I surprisingly confined myself mainly to Christmas present purchases! I do have a few new goodies to share soon, though.] The fall colours were positively beautiful, and we even briefly saw the sun.
I have been wanting to make a trip down to Portland with David for a few years now – fingers crossed that it will finally be happening this December! Thanks for sharing your lovely photos and I can't wait to see the goodies that you got – the tax free shopping must have been divine!
You always manage to find the best little spots! I've been wanting to go down to Portland for a really long time, Matt went down with his friends two years ago and had such an amazing time, we keep meaning to go down together. These images are all beautiful, hope you're having a good week so far my lovely ๐
Aw, your description of what you did in Portland sounds absolutely delightful, & what a fabulous looking city. I've never been but would absolutely love to visit. I'm smitten with the idea of neon signs, and that carousel is so lovely & full of nostalgia. Enjoy your day gorgeous, Cee!! xo V
what a wonderful tour! i haven't been to Portland in a heck of a long time but good to see it's def holding up as a hot ticket – plus it's cool how we're living within reasonable distance for a road trip that-a-way. best believe i will be following your plan of action to a T!!! the way you spent your time sounds amazing, i WANT to go to that elementary school picture show thing, very rad! you sure captured all the charm in these photos, they're awesome! xoox โฅ
Portland reminds me a little of a seaside town in England I know…. a mixture of colour and sea and signs…. I'm in the process of planning for travel for next year, I'll be sure to keep you posted if Portland is on the list.
Thanks so much for all of your kind comments, my lovely friends! xox, Cee
