When Michael Hill asked me to share a jewelry story with you all, I couldn’t say, “yes,” fast enough. Everyone wears jewellery, whether it’s in the form of a wedding ring or a pair of studs they never take out of their ears, so it’s a subject I know you can call relate to – but not everyone loves jewellery, and I admit that always surprises me. Many of my friends are totally happy to wear the same combination of earrings, necklace and ring every single day. But if you’re a jewellery lover, chances are that you choose a different combination of pieces every day based on your mood and that every piece that you own has its own story. The story of my love of all jewelry starts way back in 1987; I don’t remember who gifted me the rough turquoise pendant and silver chain for my second birthday, but it was my favourite gift and I was devastated when I lost it. The pendant turned up in the garden, the silver bent and the turquoise chipped, almost a year later. We never did find the missing chain, but I’ve held onto the pendant ever since, and it still sits in my jewellery box. My passion for jewellery has evolved over the years; from a rebellious phase in my teens when all of my friends wore only silver pieces and I wanted nothing but gold, to a vintage phase in university wherein I raided my grandma’s collection of costume jewelry from the 1950s (and Ian’s grandma’s collection, too!), to an obsession with stacking rings that began two years ago and is still going strong. I will skip lipstick but I never go a day without earrings, because I don’t feel completely dressed without at least one piece of jewellery on. My taste keeps evolving and, after years of wearing gold, gold and more gold, I’ve found myself strongly pulled towards silver pieces. The subtlety of silver fits in well with my increasingly minimalist outfit choices (and matches the hardware on my CHANEL handbag, which is a very important consideration for me.) When it comes to adding to my already entensive jewellery collection – something I really don’t need to do but never seem to stop doing, anyway – I always prefer fine jewelry over the costume variety, whether I’m shopping from local designers or larger retailers like Michael Hill. Quality is so important to me no matter what I’m shopping for – if I love something, I want to have it forever, just like I’ve had my turquoise pendant for almost thirty years now – and I think it’s the key to developing a wardrobe of versatile pieces that can be worn again and again. What I love about the specific pieces I chose from Michael Hill is exactly that – their quality and versatility. The ear climbers add an edgy vibe to the whole look, making the feather necklace and stacking rings look more modern, but if I swap them out for a pair of sparkly studs, the rings and necklace are perfect for a day at the office – in fact, I’ve received compliments every time I’ve worn them to a meeting! Despite the fact that I’ve had all of the pieces on repeat since mid-October, they all still look like new and I know I’ll be rewearing them in new ways for years to come. Whether you’re a true jewellery lover or just reach for the basics every morning, I know you’ll love Michael Hill’s selections as much as I do – they truly offer something for everyone.

  1. Cee, this outfit is SO darling! Love that you went all grey and then added your Adidas for a more street/casual vibe. Cute, cute!! As for jewellery? I go through phases with it for sure, I certainly have a lot (haha), but rarely seem to wear it. Though lately my gold cuff, statement necklace or a great cocktail ring have been my go-to for evenings out! As for your choices? Always flawless and love how you incorporate jewellery into your looks. On that note, off to peek at Michael Hill… those rings are calling my name!! xo

You and I have very similar views on jewelry. I select all my pieces very careful, have a total obsession with it, and never forsake a piece of jewelry when I dress – an outfit just never feels complete to me without it.

I’m a fan of silver also Cee. Love the pieces you’re wearing! So glad you found that pendant. It’s horrible losing something special to you. His pieces look fab.

I feel completely naked if I leave home without any jewelry, my rings especially seldom leave my fingers. I also have hoards of jewelry and always want more. There are some statement necklaces from when that was all I wanted to wear, mixed in with delicate chains and even a bit of silver that I almost never wear anymore. I love gold, though my penchant for costume jewelry tends to leave me with pieces that turn green. It is my goal to someday have a beautiful collection of genuine metals that will look amazing forever.

I love the pieces you’re wearing here. They suit you so perfectly! I wouldn’t necessarily say I’m a jewelry person, but I always (ALWAYS) throw on earrings and my watch before I leave the house.
