My love of obsession with travel is hardly a closely guarded secret. I spent practically half of last year on the road. And I regret that I can’t spend this year the same way. What I talk about less is how we manage to visit so many places so seamlessly, but I confess: it’s a lot simpler than you would imagine. My secret travel booking weapon is, and has always been, Expedia.

Practically not a holiday goes by when I don’t book at least part of my travel through Expedia. From flights to hotels to rental cars, Expedia makes it so simple to get exactly what you want at an affordable price. (I love browsing their extensive selection of hotel partners, sometimes just for fun.) And the best part is, you don’t have to book everything at once. When you book a flight, car or package with Expedia, their Add-On Advantage instantly unlocks up to 50% of select hotels from the minute you book until the day of your trip. Need a flight today? Just book it. There’s no pressure – you can book your hotel when you’re ready.

Expedia Add-On Advantage has helped me to save time (and money!) on trips over and over again. I used it last year to book our hotel stay in Venice. And again this year when we headed back to Vancouver. And, most recently, on a summer getaway to Halifax with my mom.

To say that we booked our Halifax trip in a rush is putting it mildly. I won’t dwell on how complex it can be for two working people to try to coordinate last minute time away from the office in the summer months. But it took serious organisational skills. (And a little pleading with my boss.) There is no doubt that if it hadn’t been for our absolute determination to get to the East Coast as quickly as possible, this trip would not have happened. As soon as we found dates that worked, I rushed to book flights on Expedia. At that point, a hotel was the furthest thing from my mind – we just needed to know we would actually be on a plane.

A few days later, the initial panic of booking flights subsided. That’s when we were ready to think about accommodations. Luckily, by then I’d received an email from Expedia, letting me know about all the Add-On Advantage hotel deals available to me. Booking was a breeze. I browsed all of the lovely hotels in the Halifax area online, looking for the Add-On Advantage badge to find the best deals. After a bit of discussion, we settled on The Lord Nelson Hotel and Suites. It was absolutely the right choice. The downtown location was super convenient. The rooms were breathtaking. And the price, thanks to the Add-On Advantage, was unbeatable.

If you have travel on your mind, I absolutely recommend trying Expedia. They make booking so easy and flexible, not to mention affordable. And the Add-On Advantage can help you save even more, which means more money for fun when you reach your destination!

I can relate to the stress of trying to organize a last minute trip, and I can say it’s never easy. I am of course someone who likes things planned, researched, and decided well in advance. but with the promise of saving a lot of money for a really nice hotel, I suppose waiting to book after the flights are secured might be well worth it.
