I wasn’t exactly sure how I would feel about Celine, after Phoebe Philo’s departure. I was a die hard fan of her collections for years, and I really couldn’t envision the brand without her at the helm. Ultimately, I decided life without Celine wasn’t for me, and took the plunge on a Celine Triomphe handbag in October 2021. A pair of Celine Triomphe sunglasses – specifically, the 01 style – followed about six months later. I love both, but the sunglasses have been on very heavy rotation in my wardrobe since they arrived, while my handbag is one I reach for more sporadically.

My love for Celine sunglasses knows no bounds. I’ve owned half a dozen pairs over the years. My Audrey sunglasses will always reign supreme in my heart, but the Triomphe 01 style comes in a close second. They’re classic without being dull, timeless without being basic. And the tortoise shade, called blonde Havana, truly could not be more perfect, as far as I’m concerned.

Why, then, has it taken me so long to write about them? Honestly, they fit so effortlessly into my wardrobe that it feels like I’ve always owned them, and didn’t occur to me, even days after they arrived, to think of them as new. These sunglasses are me. They always will be, even when others move on from them – since they are, I acknowledge, very on trend at the moment, which they surely won’t be forever. Trends come and go, always. But styles you love, regardless of who else loves them at a particular moment in time, are meant to stay with you for a lifetime.

Celine Triomphe 01 Sunglasses

The Triomphe 01 sunglasses are a street style hero, frequently captured sitting casually on tabletops in coffeeshop snapshots. I can guarantee you’ve seen them on Instagram. Probably pinned them on Pinterest, too. But they aren’t, despite their popularity, an obvious choice for every fashion girl. The shape and size are both decidedly vintage, reminiscent of Hollywood starlets like Grace Kelly. They look almost made to be worn paired with a silk scarf tied under the chin. With the right outfit, though, they can look surprisingly modern – they aren’t, for example, at all out of place paired with wide leg jeans and sneakers, though the temptation to pair them with elegant dresses is hard to ignore at times. They are summer sunglasses, more than winter ones, truly, but can be worn year round with the right styling. It’s all about being creative.

Like all designer sunglasses, the Triomphe 01s are an investment. Just because everyone is wearing them right now doesn’t mean they’re right for everyone. I hesitated for months, wanting to be sure I absolutely loved them, before taking the plunge. And honestly, since they arrived, I think I’ve turned out to love them even more than I expected. I suppose, Phoebe Philo or not, I’ll always be a Celine girl at heart. These sunglasses are the proof of that.
