(Travel Diary) Le Palais Royal

July 23, 2013
Built for Cardinal Richelieu in the 17th century, and originally called the Palais-Cardinal, the Palais-Royal became a royal residence after the cardinal died. It stands directly across from the Louvre, with only two streets and a small square standing between the two monolithic palaces. Today, the Palais-Royal is home to La Comedie Francaise, as well as an impressive contingent of designer boutiques and restaurants – Ian has spent the past six months working in one of them, and I, in turn, have wiled away many a happy afternoon wandering among the columns, admiring the windows at Didiet Ludot, Serge Lutens and Gabrielle Geppert.
