We arrived in Honolulu after dark, with just enough time to go to the grocery store to get necessary supplies for the next morning – read: coffee – and head to bed. When we woke up, sunlight was streaming through out slatted blinds and the sky was a shade of vibrant turquoise. I rolled over to check the clock; it was 6:30 am. That early morning introduction to the breathtaking beauty of Honolulu is one I’m not likely to forget, but what really struck me was the heat – it was unseasonably warm during our visit, with tempatures averaging about 44 celsius every day. In that kind of weather, clothes really aren’t appealing, but it’s important to keep relatively covered up if, like me, you have a habit of forgetting to reapply your sunscreen. I was lucky to get a special delivery from 8 Rue Pomme just before we left – their elegant, pure silk pieces, like this Audrey top, were a wonderful alternative to the selection of basic white t-shirts I had packed for our stay. Since we were up early, we took a morning walk along Ala Wai canal, an utterly idyllic spot, marvelling at the schools of fishing poking their heads out of the water, hoping for a morning snack, and the small grab crabs slowly chasing them away, while the palm trees swayed in the breeze. It really was as lovely a day as we could have imagined.

Nous sommes arrivés à Honolulu après le coucher du soleil, et il nous restait juste assez de temps pour faire des courses – c’est à dire acheter du café pour le matin prochain – et aller au lit. Lorsque nous nous sommes réveillés, le soleil s’était déjà levé dans un ciel turquoise. Je me suis détourné pour voir l’heure; ce n’était que 6h30. Cette introduction tôt à la beauté d’Honolulu, une ville à couper le souffle, je ne l’oublierai jamais, mais ce qui m’a vraiment frappé, c’était la chaleur – il fait beau à Hawaii, normalement, mais là il faisait chaud, avec la température qui montait jusqu’à 44 celsius chaque jour. Dans une telle chaleur, l’idée de m’habiller ne me tente pas, mais c’est important de se couvrir, surtout si on a l’habitude (comme moi) d’oublier de mettre de la crème solaire. J’ai eu la chance de recevoir un colis de la marque 8 rue Pomme juste avant de partir – leurs fringues, y incluse ma blouse Audrey, sont faites en 100% soie et étaient beaucoup plus élégants que les t-shirts blancs que j’avais l’intention d’apporter dans ma valise. Comme nous nous sommes réveillés tôt, nous nous sommes promené le long du canal Ala Wai, un lieu idyllique, où les petits poissons flottent près de la surface de l’eau, attendant qu’on leur donne à manger, les crabes leur pourchassent et les palmiers dandinent dans le vent.
