All last winter, I dreamed of a camel coat. I searched every brick and mortar store in the city, but came up with nothing that met my exacting specifications – aside from one coat at H&M, where my size had long sold out. A lengthy online browsing session finally lead me to the coat of my dreams, a long shawl style from Mango… which was also sold out. (I later found the shorter version in black, but that left me no further ahead in the camel coat department.) It wasn’t until we were in New York this fall, when a camel coat was the last thing on my mind because it was still pretty much summer, that I found the one. We were in Uniqlo, trying to pick up a few basics to tide us over until our delayed suitcase arrived, and it was hanging in the front window. Not in my size, mind you; I spent about half an hour with a very harassed young sales person, riding up and down the escalators in the three-story flagship store trying desperately to track down an extra small. We finally did find one, as I knew we would, because this coat was meant to be mine. I know this isn’t the first time I’ve worn it but this is arguably my favourite outfit featuring it yet and it so it seemed like the right moment to share the story about how this beauty came into my wardrobe. To me, a camel coat is one of those essentials that no wardrobe is complete without, but I know not everyone feels that way, so tell me – do you have a camel coat?

Je l’ai d’abord cherché dans tous les boutiques en ville, mais je n’ai rien trouvé qui était à la hauteur de mes attentes – sauf un manteau chez H&M, qui n’existait plus dans ma taille. Après une longue session de shopping en ligne, j’ai enfin repéré le manteau camel de mes rêves chez Mango – mais il était en rupture de stock. (Plus tard, je suis tombée sur la version plus courte en noir, mais ma recherche pour un manteau camel continuait.) Ce n’était que lors de notre voyage à New York cet automne, quand il faisait toujours trop chaud pour un manteau, que j’ai eu un coup de coeur pour un manteau camel. Nous étions chez Uniqlo, à la recherche de quelques basics en attendant que notre valise arrive tardivement, et là dans la vitrine, j’ai vu le manteau camel. Ce n’était pas la bonne taille, bien sûr, et j’ai passé environ une demi-heure avec un jeune vendeur plutôt épuisé, montant et descendant l’escalier mécanique dans la boutique à trois étages, à la recherche d’un manteau taille XS. Nous l’avons enfin retrouvé et j’ai toute suite passée à la caisse. Je sais que ce n’est pas la première fois que vous voyez mon manteau camel mais je vous présente aujourd’hui mon look préféré avec, donc j’ai cru que c’était le moment de vous raconter son histoire. Pour moi, un manteau camel est un essentiel et sans ce, ma garde-robe était incomplète. Mais je sais que pour les manteaux, certaines sont plutôt genre noir ou marine que camel, donc dites-moi – avez-vous un manteau camel dans votre dressing ?
