Back when I was fifteen, when most of my clothes came from the sale rack at the Gap, all I really wanted was to dress in head-to-toe Le Chateau. (And Silver brand jeans, naturally.) The designers of the Le Chateau collection seemed to somehow know what I wanted before I did; I idolized the eccentric Gothic sales girls at the Polo Park store in Winnipeg, whose amazing style was overshadowed only by their ability to stand at the cash register looking bored. On more than one occasion, I spent an evening in their fitting rooms with my best friend, trying on everything from red velour miniskirts with chinoiserie print to bohemian pink scarf blouses. We bought nothing – the price of the collections were well beyond our babysitting money budget. Over the years, as the free hours I had to spend on silly fitting room expeditions dwindled, filled by shifts at part-time jobs and dates with short-term boyfriends and more arduous school work, my interest in Le Chateau waned. When I shopped, I stuck to stores I knew I could afford, and began gravitating towards more classic styles – if I tried on a miniskirt again while I still lived at home, it was a black one. And while I grew and changed, so did Le Chateau. It was years before I stepped into one of their stores again, but when I did I was pleasantly surprised – and within just a few visits, the brand became my go-to for great basics, not to mention the most comfortable shoes. Seriously, I think very few people know just how awesome Le Chateau shoes really are, but I have five pairs in my closet and counting; not a single one has ever given me a blister or even so much as made my feet tired, no matter how high the heel, which has to be some kind of miracle. There are very few stores I loved in my teen that still appeal to me – I don’t know if Suzy Shier even still exists, but I know I wouldn’t darken the doors of one of their boutiques if it did – which is a testament to the versatility of Le Chateau’s designs. And to be honest, collaborating with the brand, which I have such a long history with, always gives my teenaged self a little thrill; if I had told her I would someday be walking down the cutest street in Greenwich Village, known as Rainbow Row, with my best friend, wearing head-to-toe Le Chateau, she probably would have squealed – but then laughed and said, “No way.” Life really is full of amazing surprises.

  1. Le Chateau was my dream store as a teenager (I was seriously in love with that place) but I haven’t shopped there recently. I had no idea about the shoes though – that’s a very useful piece on info!

Being able to collaborate with a brand you have a history with is one of the greatest pleasures of having a blog and even getting to have kind of an ‘I’ve made it moment’. It is comforting to think that your brands grow and change with you and your style, of course, isn’t it expected? We’ve left the 90’s and so have our favorite brands. There are maybe only a handful of brands, perhaps Chanel, that you do not want to ever really change.

Isn’t it amazing how things come full circle (in fashion and in life)? I adore that skirt on you.

  5. I was obsessed with Le Chateau in high school, and I must admit, after seeing your outfit… clearly I need to visit again! You look absolutely flawless, love this look from head-to-toe and I would have assumed it was from a high-end label. Plus, how fun to be able to collaborate with a brand you love! Life is definitely full of fabulous surprises! xo
