I saved the best for last. It’s hard to imagine a bad photo of New York – somehow, even open fire hydrants spraying water into gutters and onto garbage cans piled next to them look photogenic in the capital of the empire state. But the views from Top of the Rock, the rooftop of the iconic Rockefeller Centre building, are second to none. When it comes to visiting tourist attractions, I am hesitant to buy tickets to anything that will require me to go through a security check, watch a video while waiting in line with a horde of slow moving people and pose for a forced photo that I will have the privilege of purchasing in the gift shop later on –  Top of the Rock required all of the above, and a few additional indignities that are all too often forced upon travellers whose only crime is wanting to see the city they are visiting through a cliched lens. But I sucked it up (admittedly cringing all the way) for these sunset views. And I won’t lie, it was worth having my toes stepped on in my impractical shoes, worth waiting (not entirely) patiently for the perfect spot, worth cropping out arms and legs that somehow snuck into the corners of so many photos, to get these shots. These are the last of the thousands of photos we took in New York, but I can’t think of a better way to end the series – and, admittedly, I’m looking forward to starting to show you what I’ve been wearing this fall later this week! (Which, by the way, includes this dress, albeit with something warm layered over top – it’s still available from REVOLVE and will be part of the sale from November 1st to 3rd. Use the code 20OFF to get your discount!)

  3. Oooh, I can not wait to see this dress remixed for fall, because it caught my eye immediately and I imagine it must be just as stunning for cooler weather! <3 And haha, I love your description of the "tourist trap" I'm absolutely right there with you, but views such as this are totally worth it. What a gorgeous spot & stunning snaps! Happiest Monday loves!! xo

I’m just going to say, it was 100% worth it. I know I’ve said before, the lengths we sometimes go to for the perfect staged-to-look-completely-candid-shots can be extreme, but in a city like new york, going to these iconic locations just give the biggest impact, and I’m so happy that it all worked out and you had an amazing time in New York.

So true ! even the “bad things” look good in NYC 🙂
You’ve made me recall the first and only time I visited the Empire State Building – I was visiting with my grandparents and I literally felt on top of the world…

I love your ambition and determination to get the perfect shot. I have admittedly gotten pretty lazy as far as that goes, but that’s why my photos don’t look like this. I’ve loved your NYC series, so much. Looking forward to seeing your fall looks too!

haha I totally get you about arms and limbs sticking into one’s photos! It looks almost serenely deserted in these photos!
