Winter is not my season, but I will be the first to admit that it is pretty if you’re just looking at it (and not experiencing the cold that comes with it!) We visited Ice Castles on a relatively warm day in January. At the time, I promised to share more photos of the winter wonderland in the coming weeks, when I needed winter inspiration. And after a brief trip to Toronto where temperatures were around twelve degrees (albeit under grey, rainy skies,) the cold here in Winnipeg is feeling like a bit much. It is, indeed, time for some much-needed winter inspiration.

I am dreaming of trench coat and jeans cropped at the ankle. Of days when I can wear my beloved Birkenstocks again. But at least, in the winter, the sun is almost always shining. Skies are blue. And, most importantly, like all seasons, it comes to an end soon enough, leaving warm breezes and blooming flowers in its wake.

Before I know it, spring will be here. The snow I have slipped in (mostly thanks to my less than practical footwear choices) and maligned over and over, will all melt away. And I will be glad. I don’t hesitate to say it. I don’t doubt it for a minute. But when it all goes, it will take beautiful things like Ice Castles with it. I still won’t be sorry. But I am glad to have lived a fairytale winter moment, however briefly, while it lasted.

  1. I usually visit the Ice Castles here every year and this was the first time I didn’t. I really regret not being able to make it this year but it just never seemed like the weather was warm enough to be outside with Eleanor for an extended period, and the few times that it was it seemed like either she or me or both of us was sick with a cold. Next winter I guess…

  2. Just when I thought we were getting blessed with an early spring… we’re back to SNOW and freezing temps. I’m honestly not made for this, it’s so cold, and I refuse to go outside. Haha, I know, so dramatic, but I just can’t get warm!! So I’m definitely rooting for warmer days, but trying to appreciate the beauty of it all the same. Love these Ice Castle pics Cee, so pretty!!! xo

  3. This is so stunning!! I’m so not a fan of the cold, but I feel like I could brave it for something like this! 😉

I would not hesitate to visit the ice castles if I had the opportunity, they are just stunning and while maybe I can enjoy them more from the cozy distance of a computer screen as opposed to facing the actual biting cold that accompanies them in person, I would sacrifice a little warmth to do so.

  5. Gorgeous photos. Captured so beautifully. Yes, it’s warming up here as well. Can’t wait for the warm weather. But I think we’re expecting one more cold snap.
