I overthink everything. My BFFFFF recently told me, very lovingly, that he admires my ability to consider a problem from every angle – which is basically a way of saying, “You overthink everything, but it’s not so bad!” It’s that tendency to overthink that makes me hesitant to ever say that you need a particular pair of jeans or that a special t-shirt can change your life. After all, how should I know? I don’t have nearly enough information to make an accurate statement about what any of you need.

See – overthinking.

What I do know is what works for me. And while my travel essentials change years after year as my perspective changes, the one thing that has remained consistent is my luggage. I received an adorable white carry-on suitcase from Herschel Supply Co. two years ago. I can admit that my love for it was primarily based on aesthetics – at least at first. But that all changed the first time I took it to Europe. Since then, I’ve given absolutely no thought to changing my carry-on bag. In fact, I have occasionally worried that someday, I might have to replace the one I have. I genuinely can’t imagine my travel life without it. (Which is why you’ve seen it… one, two and now, three times in outfit posts since then. And countless other times in travel posts, too.)

I love my carry-on suitcase so deeply that when my tired old full-sized suitcase finally fell apart on our return from Europe last year, I knew exactly where I would go for a replacement; Herschel Supply Co. They make a range of sizes of suitcases, so I was easily able to find a large one to match my carry-on version. I took both to Washington DC this month and seriously – it was a travel life changer.

So, what is it that really sets my Herschel Supply Co. suitcases apart? There is the style for a start. White suitcases look undeniably chic and photograph beautifully. And yes, that is important to me. But the colour is surprisingly practical, too, because they’re so easy to spot among the sea of black cases on any given luggage carousel in any given airport. (I do have to wipe them down after we travel, but they’re plastic, so that’s easy.)

And then there is the shape. The carry-on bag fits seamlessly in every overhead bin, while the suitcase slides into the trunk of any car with no fuss.

But the best part, truly, is the weight. These bags are just so light. I exercise a lot and take pride in my strength to size ratio. But the reality is, I’m a small person which makes lifting a huge suitcase a challenge. Over the years, I have relied on Ian to carry my suitcase more often than I care to admit. With these cases, not only can I pull both of my own bags at once, I can actually lift them both at the same time – one in each hand. One evening in DC, I even carried them both up a flight of stairs. Unassisted. It sounds silly, but I felt like a conqueror when I reached the top.

In the past few months, I’ve heard countless articles written by women who own at least as many shoes as I do about how they only travel with carry-on luggage. And if that’s true, I admire them. But for me, it’s not realistic – I like to have options. Especially shoe options. I’ll never travel without a full suitcase, and Herschel Supply Co. luggage has made it infinitely easier for me to justify that. Because yes, this is another one of those things I overthink.

I don’t know if you need new luggage. I don’t know if you struggle to carry the luggage you have now. But if you’re in the market for new suitcases, I can’t recommend Herschel Supply Co. enough. These beauties will be with me for all of my foreseeable future trips and quite honestly, I hope they last forever.

This is what I wore when we travelled to Washington DC – there’s lots more to come from our trip starting next week that I am so excited to share. In the meantime, happy Friday!

  1. I really need to invest in some quality luggage – I currently just have a random assemblage of mismatched pieces that I’ve either bought on the cheap over the years or been given by family or friends. I mean they all work but they decidedly unstylish…and heavy!

I believe luggage should be just as stylish as every other bag you own, so I’m a big fan of these. You can’t go wrong with white, especially in an endless sea of black (though I’ve noticed a lot more diversity these days). When I treated myself to new luggage a couple years ago of course it was white! Now it’s all scuffed and I need to see if the magic eraser can save it. But I’d still buy white again.

  3. THANK YOU for the lovely Skype chat yesterday!! Was that our new record?! Man we can gab. Haha! 😉 But seriously, so good catching up and I can’t wait to see you in April!!! <3 As for overthinking everything? Well what can I say… we're "soul twins" in so many areas and this is definitely one of them. I've been an over-thinker from day one, but for the most part it serves me well. Or so I think! But I digress, if I traveled more, and hopefully I will, Herschel has always been at the top of my list – especially in white. It looks so good + love the idea of being able to spot my luggage too. Hope you're having a lovely Saturday and your cold is calming down! xo

Looks like a cute luggage set. I struggle with carry on only luggage because I am such an over packer, but I recently got some new cabin luggage and it’s made the process of travelling so much easier.

  5. I am in the market for a new suitcase Cee and these are lovely. They look so chic. I love your outfit! Gorgeous camel & black. I love your cat eye shades and hat. Tip top from head to toe.
