I bought this dress on a whim. That isn’t unusual for me, especially with summer clothes. When the snow melts and the sun comes out, part of me comes back to life and wants to do all the shopping enjoy everything that world has to offer again. In the spring, I placed one Mango order. Then another and another, all in quick succession. There was just so much to love in their warm weather collections, my ability to restrain myself collapsed completely.

I chose this dress because it closely resembled a knit dress I bought from Mango during their winter clearance sale. It was love at first wear with that dress. The length and ribbed knits of both dresses are similar, if not identical. But while the winter version is cozy, almost like a stylish, body hugging blanket, the summer version is light, airy and effortless. And white.

I love a little white dress for the summer. Far more than I love a little black dress in the fall and winter, I admit. And I realise that sounds surprising, given my love of all things ebony-hued, but hear me out. A little black dress is a classic. The right one can complete your wardrobe. But it is intended as a wear again piece, not a showstopper. Black is muted and understated. White makes a statement. No one can help but notice a fabulous little white dress – especially if you dare to wear one while holding a glass of red wine.

My summer wardrobe includes a plethora of little white dresses – see exhibits A, B and C. And yet, somehow, it never feels like my little white dress collection is complete. The LDW is so easy to just throw on when the weather is hot, but never fails to look absolutely stylish, no matter how little outfit planning effort it requires in reality. There is always another style that I stumble upon and fall in love with. And when I wear my little white dresses so often, it’s hard for me to really want to hold myself back from buying more.

I didn’t originally intend to write a whole post about this dress – or even about the little white dress in general. But I had to, because it’s become clear since I shared my first snapshot of this beauty on instagram that you all agree with me. The sheer number of messages I received about it left me stunned. So many of you have purchased the same dress, or a very similar version of it, and shared your photos with me. (The way Lydia styled hers remains a particular favourite.) What a cool thing – I love that our love this little white dress has united so many of us in a new way.

Whether you love a little white dress, or avoid wearing them for fear of spills, I think we can all agree – this dress was definitely my best purchase this summer.

White definitely makes a statement – I do really love this dress on you. Maybe one day I’ll get over my fear of wearing white…

It’s so true, no matter how many little white dresses you have, you can always find reason for another, such was the case with this dress as the moment I saw it on you I just had to have it! And of course after making one Mango purchase, three more immediately followed…
