“Maybe I’ll buy a pair of Fendi earrings.” I uttered those words over a prosecco lunch at Fiumicino airport. We arrived ahead of departure, chose a restaurant at random and enjoyed a meal with no particular plan in mind… until the prosecco set in, that is. Suddenly, it was an hour and a half before our flight left. My time in Italy was growing ever briefer. And I just hadn’t shopped quite enough. Surrounded by luxury stores, the temptation was only too real. Why not indulge? I couldn’t think of any reason, so off I want to the Fendi boutique, credit card in my wallet and no real plan in mind aside from parting myself from some money.
…ten minutes later, I was the proud owner of a pair of Fendi earrings.
I can honestly say that before that lunch at Fiumicino, I’d never considered the possibility that I might someday own Fendi earrings. But a quick internet search convinced me that the brand offers a number of classic styles that would fit well into my jewelry collection. I narrowed my selections down pretty quickly; I always gravitate towards hoop earrings, and I like a little bit of sparkle. One quick look at them in store and I told the salesperson without hesitation, “Yes, I’ll take them.”
For an impulse purchase, these beauties, which are the “F is Fendi” style, a mid-sized hoop around a capital F, emblazoned with zirconia, have turned out brilliantly. (No pun intended.) Maybe it’s the style, maybe it’s just the story of how they came into my wardrobe, but there’s something a little bit extra about them. They’re my power earrings. Although almost no one can see, and few people would recognise, the logo when meeting with me on camera, I love to wear them to client meetings because they make me feel fabulous the second I put them on. We all need those talismans, I think; the clothes and accessories that make us feel both strong and beautiful. They may not have that exact effect on everyone, but I still recommend them highly. They offer good price to quality parity, and the classic style mean they can be worn, season after season, with a variety of different outfits without ever looking dull or dated. That kind of versatility is (nearly) priceless.
