When I was growing up – yes, I know, I have to stop starting my posts this way – my family got together for Sunday dinner every week. I know this sounds idyllic, like the kind of family togetherness we only saw in old time family TV shows, but in reality it was loud, chaotic, messy and basically my least favourite part of the weekend (sorry, mom.) So when La Pentola at the Opus Hotel in Yaletown invited us to their Sunday Supper dinner series, I was understandably apprehensive. But what a contrast the evening was from the Sunday dinners I grew up with – we were treated to champagne almost as soon as we sat down, spoiled with good company and an incredible nine courses of delicious food. The theme of the evening was tomato, so every course incorporated tomatoes in some way – including dessert! The burrata with minted peas and tomato was a particular favourite for me, although there were at least three dishes I would have gone back for seconds of, despite being obscenely full of both food and wine by the end of the evening. Naturally, my favourite part of the evening was getting dressed for it, although the outfit I planned, which you see in these photos, sadly didn’t make it to dinner – the warm sunshine had completely disappeared by Sunday evening, giving way to a cold wind with pouring rain, so I opted to change into something slightly more practical before we went to eat. It turned out to be the best decision, since I spilled a whole spoonful of tomatoes down my front during the first course – this dreamy dress most likely wouldn’t have survived which would have been devastating, since I’m already pondering how I can restyle it. Happy holiday Monday!

What a nice custom, to have dinner with the family on Sundays – even if it was not your fave, I’m pretty sure you have good memories and stories to tell from those evenings.
Your 9 meal course just me hungry… tomato!?! really ?!

  2. Sometimes family dinners can be pretty chaotic affairs – well, at least mine always seem that way.

  3. Your dress, NAILS, and accessories are perfection Cee!! As always, I absolutely love everything about this look + your Opus dinner sounds divine!! It’s been a while since I’ve gone (damn you food intolerances) but I’ve always been a big fan of their dining experience and yours sounds truly special/fabulously memorable. Also, phew, for not spilling anything on your dress. Meant to be, meant to be!! xo

White dresses and tomatoes are a very dangerous mix indeed, so I’m glad to see this gorgeous dress got saved from that fate! However I do hope you have an equally fabulous occasion on the horizon for which to wear it, as it does deserve it’s due.
