That I have had a hard time packing for New York Fashion Week is hardly a secret – my struggles have been documented on practically all of my social media channels in the past week. I am normally organised to the point of obsession; I have packing rules and a spreadsheet where I list my outfits for a trip, cataloguing the articles of clothing I will need to bring in categories like tops and shoes. I have made attempts at putting my usual spreadsheet together for NYFW, to no avail – I scrapped the first one entirely, and the second one sits stubbornly blank aside from a (very) long list of accessories. How then, you are probably wondering, did I manage to put together my suitcase sneak peek last week? Part of it, admittedly, was guess work – I know approximately what I want to bring with me to New York, just not how I plan to wear it when I get there. The problem is, I don’t really know what the problem is, exactly. The forecast has been part of it, and although the weather is not entirely to blame, it is a challenge to pack for thirty-degree days when the temperature at home is hovering around twelve. I just got back into my scarves and jackets; losing the sun is never my favourite part of the transition between summer and autumn, but I do love my fall clothes. Switching back to summer outfits again when all my most recent sartorial inspiration photos involve coats is no easy feat; I have visions of turtlenecks but I need to pack tank tops. Yep, I have major fashion blogger problems. In all seriousness, every trip is unique and some are easier to pack for than others – and while I’ve shared my packing tips in the past, the hardest advice to take is always your own. While my NYFW outfits may not be coming together quite as seamlessly as I would like, there are some things going in my suitcase that I am really excited about, including a set of monogrammed leather travel cases from Cuyana that I have been saving for months, a beautiful fresh water pearl necklace from local brand CC Lifestyles and my beloved Wear Elise pajamas – they are by far the most luxurious sleepwear I own, and I save them for holidays in the hopes that they will last forever. If you have any last minute packing or outfit planning tips to share, I’d be eternally grateful – I’ve made a very pretty mess, but so far I haven’t actually got anything into a suitcase!

Oh wow – packing for FW must be overwhelming.
I just posted a quick note about packing as I’m just back from a week in Peru where I attended a family wedding and we had an event every.single.day. From a welcome lunch, to a henna party, to Shabbat …
Regardless my tips would be to pack: with a color scheme in mind (which for you should be easy), pack with a purpose and in my book its better to be overdressed than under.

  3. Aw, you have my sympathies Cee! When I packed for Austin it was supposed to be hot, but then poured and was super cold. So my outfits were a complete hodge podge and I was soaked half the time. But my spirits were bright and I had a wonderful time! I’m certain your outfits will be fabulous + I can’t wait to see all the fun you’ll have! Yay!! xo

    You would think as a
Flight attendant I would have tips but sadly I don’t ha ha ! Enjoy your trip and pack everything ( just in case) worth the extra $ to check a bag and a full carry on for such an amazing experience !

Packing for warmer weather has never been a problem for me, it’s always when we get that first cool day when I completely freak out. The summer weather is the reason why fall fashion week is the only fashion week I’ve ever dared to attend, spring fashion week in the bleakness of February does nothing to excite me sartorially. While I will admit I’m starting to imagine how nice it might be to be able to throw a jacket or cardigan over a dress I’ve already worn a dozen times this summer to mix it up a bit, I will never dismiss the warmer weather while I’ve got it.

Packing freakouts are par for the course, the fact that you’ve always had them so under control is abnormal, as far as I’m concerned… so I’m sure you’ll be fine and so fabulous for fashion week!

  6. When you’re going from two weather extremes, I can imagine the difficulty Cee. But I love what I’m seeing so far! You always look great, so it will work. Have a great time doll!
