The Only LBD you’ll Ever Need (No, Seriously)

I feel like I’ve been searching for this dress all my life. That sounds trite, but honestly – who isn’t searching, at least on some subconscious level, for their perfect LBD, that fairytale dress that will make them feel fabulous and look perfect no matter what the occasion? Our expectations for an LBD have been so built-up by long ago assurances from Coco Chanel that it is the perfect garment and magazines who repeat her words constantly that it’s hard for any dress to actually deliver on all that promise. I should know; at last count I owned twelve LBDs. I love a lot of them. (A few, admittedly, were errors in judgement. I don’t love every single piece of black clothing in the world, it turns out.) For a while there, I thought one of them might actually be the one – but I lived in Paris then, and I spent about six hours less behind a desk every day (plus I was broke) so I was slimmer. These days, I find the curve hugging fit a bit unforgiving, unless I’m not planning to eat a morsel wherever I’m going (and let’s face it, that is never my plan, because food I don’t cook myself is the most delicious.) What we’re all looking for in our perfect LBD is different, but I think we can all agree that wrap styles are always flattering and that, as adult women, we would prefer that our dresses hit at least mid-thigh – am I right? I admit that while I knew this dress from Stylewe would tick both of those boxes, I didn’t have the slightest inkling that it would stand out from my other LBDs the way it ultimately has. First of all, this dress is comfortable – like, sweatpants comfortable. It’s one of the few pieces of clothing I own that I don’t want to rip off the second I come in the house. (Yep, I have pretty strong feels about being comfortable, so I live in Calvin Klein underwear, leggings and hoodies at home.) Secondly, the length is perfect, even on my petite frame – it hits me just at the knee, making it not so long as to be frumpy but long enough that I can tuck it under me when I set down; we’ve all had those dresses that don’t tuck under and quite frankly, in my thirties, I’m just not interested in wearing anything that makes me feel that awkward. (Which probably explains why, if you watch my rather silly instagram stories, you’ll seen it pop up over and over in my #ootd snaps.) And finally, it’s seriously affordable – at just $65 regular price (and currently on sale for $55.25), it’s no wonder this dress has been a bestseller for Stylewe. It comes in a few colours and the temptation to buy them all/just stock up on more of the black version is very strong.

Je vous reviens en français lundi, mes jolies. Entretemps, je vous souhaite un très bon week-end ! Gros bisous !

  1. Relate, and agree with ALL you’ve said, Cee. I definitely prefer longer lengths, unless I’m wearing leggings and over the knee boots that is, and I absolutely need dresses that flatter. My too thin and broke days are behind me as well. Haha! 😉 Also, seriously wondering why I don’t have leopard print pumps in my life they’re perfect with this dress …which I’m seriously tempted to buy. In love!! Happiest Friday, pally! xo

I have about 7 or 8 LBD’s, but I’m still searching for the perfect one. I love this on. The fit and length does make it a really perfect black dress – one Coco Chanel would be proud of.

I am literally always searching for a LBD. I actually just purchased one from ASOS that was on sale. I feel like I buy black dresses more than others because the blackness fades or pills or something like that through washes and wearing… so hopefully this one will keep me satisfied for a year or two.

But okay, my rambling aside, this dress is gorgeous. I absolutely love the skirt on it–so flowy and magical! You’re a princess! Eeeep!

Cee, that dress is absolutely STUNNING on you! It is gorgeous! When I saw your tweet, my jaw dropped. I LOVE THAT DRESS! Those heels are fab. You perfectly paired everything. You look very pretty from head to toe.

It’s so true, we are meant to believe that one black dress can change our lives, but it never seems to exist! And then as you so perfectly summed up, we think we’ve found it and our bodies go and change on us. I’m glad your new perfect dress has finally found it’s way into your closet! Anything you can wear all day and not want to rip off when you get home is some kind of magic.
