Kensington High Street

We stayed at the Hilton London Olympia, on the Kensington High Street, during our visit to London. The location is perhaps not ideal for travelling to the city centre, but the service was excellent, the beds enormous and it had the distinct benefit of being within walking distance of Frank’s Sandwich Shop, a tiny, non-descript restaurant, all of whose signage had large Coca-Cola logos on it… appearances can be decieving. I had reservations about Frank’s, but Ian convinced me to go in and I was so glad I did; I enjoyed two breakfasts of beans and toast there, a true indulgence for a girl who doesn’t have a toaster, and even spent some time chatting with Frank, the congenial owner, a life-long Londoner who accounts for a great deal of the restaurant’s charm! We had a very early flight, so I kept my outfit casual for our first day in the UK capital, which meant, surprise, surprise, lots of black! It turned out to be the perfect choice for the crazy day we had, which included visiting Piccadilly Circus, Liberty of London, The British Museum and a lovely blogger lunch with one of my favourite Brits, Sherin.

I have lots more London photos to bombard you all with… basically for the rest of the week! Happy Wednesday!

Bon mercredi!

Travel clothing simply has to be about the basics, and comfort, without looking like a slob! I can't stand people who wear sweat pants on flights, ugh. You looked chic as ever. Looking forward to more London pics.

hehe, same story with toasters here. I sometimes really miss it!
anyway, since black often tends to be “your colour” then obviously you always wear it well. and adding cute textures like the one on your bag is definitely a bonus 😉 btw, when I read about your trip it reminded me of our trip to Prague last spring. gosh how I miss it!

  44. What a glorious day and your beans & toast sound so, so good. I can't imagine living without a toaster though. Tea and toast is my absolute staple! Love your outfit choice for your day too, relaxed but incredibly chic – the pop of animal print & bright lips is the perfect choice for an all black ensemble! xo

  45. Well, no surprise, but I love the all black head-to-toe on you. Such a chic look for traveling…sure beats what I look like when I travel! You know, I think you had me realize how much I take my toaster for granted. I just thought about what it would be like to not have one…and I couldn't even imagine. Those “small” things we take for granted. Thanks for reminding me to be appreciate those everyday things we should be grateful to have.

  46. Rebecca Jane says:

    Hi Rebecca,

It's actually be really cold all over Europe this spring – I've been trying to show more spring looks on my blog periodically but when I'm going out day to day, I'm still in a blazer and scarf or a jacket! It's pretty awful, really; I felt lucky to be able to get away with just my sweater on this day!

  51. This outfit is full of delightful little things – a delicate ripped slit in your jeans, rolled cuffs, pretty bag chain strap, and the prettiest ring.

  52. Cee, I'm so happy that you had such a great time in London and it was great that you had the chance to meet up with Sherin! As for the traditional English breakfast, it is one of my favourite meals and I'm glad you found such a good place, indeed Ian knows best! Caterina
